Oli govt damaged Nepal’s international relations: Dahal
CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that current government led by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has failed to take diplomatic initiatives in order to serve the national interest. Addressing the House of Representative on February 6, the main opposition leader further stated that instead of strengthening Nepal’s strong presence in the international arena, the current government is damaging the international relations.
During my tenure, we worked hard to push forward the relationship with neighboring countries, Dahal said, we signed some important agreements with India in the areas of Nepal’s strategic development. With China, I have signed some important agreement including on Belt and Road Initiatives (BRI), Dahal said. Dahal, however, did not mention anything the BRI framework agreement signed with Beijing during the PM Oli’s visit to Beijing in December 2-5, 2024.
In the parliament, Dahal spoke on wide-range of internal issues including the cases against Rastriya Swantra Party (RSP) Chairman Rabi Lamichhane stating that it is a politically motivated move. He strongly opposed the Social Media Bill presented in Parliament stating that it goes against the freedom of speech and press guaranteed by the constitution. My government did not allow to criminalize the freedom of speech, we gave consent to hold social media giants and users accountable to the society, Dahal said. The Social Media Bill has drawn criticisms from both ruling and opposition party leaders as well as from Media fraternity.
