Nepal PM to visit China
Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is likely to pay an official visit to China in the first week of December, reports Annapurna Post. According to the news report, PM will leave Kathmandu for Beijing on December 2 and will return home on December 6. The visit will break the long-standing tradition of Nepali prime minister beginning their foreign visit from New Delhi. For more than three months, PM Oli waited for an official invitation from New Delhi for the visit. During the United Nations General Assembly in September, Oli held talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi but India is yet to extend invitation for Oli.
The report further states that during the visit, there is high chances of signing of the BRI implementation plan. Earlier, Oli had consulted with senior leaders of the party about the possible risks to government if he chooses to visit China before the India; leaders suggested him to go to Beijing. As a part of the preparations of PM’s China visit, Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba is likely to go Beijing for the visit. In his first tenure in 2016, Oli had signed historic Transit and Transport Treaty with China, ending India’s total monopoly in Nepal’s supply system.
