CPN (Maoist Center) unveils its position on constitution amendment

The main opposition party CPN (Maoist Center) led by Pushpa Kamal Dahal has unveiled its position on the possible constitution amendment in Nepal’s 2015 constitution. The constitution amendment is one of the major agendas of the current coalition CPN-UML and Nepali Congress. Though while forming the alliance, two parties decided to take initiatives to amend the constitution, they have yet to take any initiatives. After its internal meeting, the CPN (Maoist Center) Spokesperson Agni Sapkota outlined the party’s position on the amendment. According to him, Maoists want to go for a directly elected president, fully proportional representation system as an electoral system, selecting experts as members of the cabinet, and ensuring 50 percent women representation.
