All types of discriminatory action and incidents are punishable, insists Home Minister

Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has said all types of discriminatory incidents and behaviours are punishable by law, and the government is committed to bringing those involved in such acts to justice.

He expressed the commitment to bring to justice the culprit behind the suspicious death of 22-year-old Dinesh BK of Bhotrekoshi rural municipality in Sindhupalchowk district.

Responding to the question put by lawmakers in a session of the National Assembly, the upper house of the Federal Parliament, today, Home Minister Lekhak informed the house that three people, namely Devaki Ghatani, Ujel Bahadur Ghatani and Raj Kumar Sunar, who have been named in the complaint filed by the victim’s uncle, have been arrested in connection with the suspicious death of the 22-year-old youth.

He said they are being interrogated, and a fair investigation would be carried out against them before filing a case against the three.

Similarly, a person involved in an incident in Rautahat has been arrested, and legal action will be taken against him. A search is ongoing for the rest of the persons involved in this incident.

In the case of the Baitadi incident, the Home Minister said that information has been received that the people of both the Dalit and non-Dalit communities have carried out the last rites of the victim who was killed in the incident.

According to the Home Minister, there would be no reconciliation in such incidents and no trumped-up cases would be filed against anyone. Action would be taken as per the existing laws if such acts are found to be committed by anyone, he informed the Upper House.(RSS)
